Kat’s Big Gay Yard
Fighting Back Against Homophobia
How It Started
A few years ago, I moved into my almost-dream house.
Why almost?
Because of our next door neighbors.
They are racist, homophobic, obnoxious, loud, and rude.
We tried to be good neighbors, but in the spring of 2020, they responded to someone I love by saying, “F**k you, Fa**ot”
I was so angry, but we decided that the only way to respond to such vile hatred was with love.
So I reached out to my local community for help making my literal “Big Gay Yard.” I told the story, created an Amazon Wish List, and to my complete surprise – rainbow things started appearing.
One day my Amazon delivery guy had to use a tote!
And so – Kat’s Big Gay Yard was born.
How The Big Gay Yard Is Going Today
I still love the big gay yard!
While many of the original things gifted have now started to show wear and tear, I do still keep up the rainbow decor – some year round and some just in the nice weather.
I often sit on the porch and watch people go by, and I cannot tell you how much it warms my heart when I see someone just notice and smile. I feel like people in my neighborhood now that I’ve been here this long know that my house is safe.
The fact that it annoys my neighbor is now just icing on the cake!
Update! – The most annoying of the two roommates has moved out and is gone – the other one is way less obnoxious without that one! (Bonus – no more plumbers a$$ crack)
